Living Waters

Our Vision

The vision of the church is to successfully win people to Jesus Christ.  Put another way, we want to make, mature and mobilise disciples. This is achieved via a process of four steps:

vision

Win:  To bring a person to Jesus Christ. This notion of "win" or "winning" should not be confused with the idea of "winning the lottery" or "winning a prize" where the result is down to chance, but more akin to the brilliant strategy that lies behind "winning" a war. Our society, says the Apostle Paul, has been spiritually blinded (2 Corinthians 4:4), and so we must pray earnestly and then work with every form of evangelism available to win the unchurched to the love of Jesus. People do not just stumble into Christianity today, they have to be won, and we owe the lost a church that is skillfully seeking them.

Consolidate:  After a person has accepted Christ, they are like a new born baby that needs a lot of attention. The second stage is the consolidation stage, the purpose of which is to ensure that we "keep the catch" that we have made. The church is notorious for having holes in its nets and some of the statistics concerning drop out after conversion are very alarming. Jesus taught in the Parable of the Sower that there are many factors that confront the new seeds as they grow. We are determined to be a church that is good at both fishing and at bringing those fish back to the shore without losing them once again to the sea.

Disciple:  The third step is to ensure that we are making disciples out of our evangelism, rather than merely "making decisions". Discipleship seems to be at the heart of Jesus' earthly ministry and central to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). We do this by unashamedly teaching God's Word, brining its relevance to the contemporary world, and by encouraging people to be part of small groups, where they can learn and grow together with other believers in their love for God and in their dedication to the work of the harvest.

Send:  Once a person has been won to Jesus Christ and consolidated in their faith, and has begun the life long discipleship process, they are ready to become a soul winner themselves and the whole process begins again. Part of the ministry of the church is to provide opportunities for people to get involved and become part of harvesting the lost, whether by direct evangelism or through showing the love of God in social action and earning the right to speak into others' lives.

It is a long journey, but if we can be a church that actively wins people to the Lord, working hard to keep the catch, and then training those converts to do the same, we are confident that we can play our part in the presentation of the kingdom of Jesus to Cambridge and beyond!
